Red Class - Term 4
In Red class we are all very glad to see the first signs of spring and hopefully we will be able to spend more time outside enjoying the promised sunshine.
We have had a very busy time since the beginning of the year and time has just flown by.
Here is a snapshot of some of the things the children have enjoyed learning together .
In Geography they went on a whistle stop tour of Mexico focusing on a village called Tocuaro. The children enjoyed listening to Mexican music and using an interactive computer program to find out all about a family and how they work, learn, live and enjoyed themselves in the village. When they compared this to the life they lead in Maidenhead they were surprised how different it is here. Making Mexican masks proved to be a big hit with the children and they make the classroom look very colourful.
In History we wandered back in time and followed Florence Nightingale to the Crimean war. We learnt that she was responsible for the start of the nursing system that we have today. We also had a visit from Mrs Wisa a modern day nurse who brought the importance of what Florence started bang up to date. The children were delighted to hear and ask questions about modern nursing and to see some small everyday pieces of equipment. We would like to say a big thank you to Mrs Wisa for making the time to come in and talk to us it was very much appreciated.
Science has been all about forces this term. Ramps and cars were the highlight and we had some excellent challenging ideas to investigate including the best height for a ramp and the fastest surface in our school for toy cars. We have also discovered that we need to make all investigations fair and by working together we achieve better results.
An invitation to Cox Green School to join in a Multi Skills Day caused great excitement. We walked over full of anticipation and we were not disappointed! The children joined with other local schools in a 2 hour session of activities guided by the Cox Green students. They all listened carefully and put their heart and souls into each activity. We were very proud of the way they represented the school by trying hard and behaving impeccably.
As the term comes to an end we have started our D.T. project on puppets. It was lovely to stand in the middle of the classroom and look around at every child completely immersed in their sewing! We have definitely got some future Catherine Kidstons in our midst!
Sculpture can be a very tricky area of Art but not for Red class! We looked at examples of sand sculptures along with wooden and stone examples. The children draw fantastic pictures of models we had in the classroom before designing their own to be made from clay. After a practise with plasticine they all tried their best to make an animal using self hardening clay. Making a model strong enough to stand up is no easy task but they all did really well. They have been admired by many visitors to the school.
We all wish you a happy and sunny Easter break and look forward to seeing you next term.
