Purple Class - Year 1
Things have been growing madly in Purple Class this term! In May we planted lettuce, carrot, onion, bean and pea seeds so that we could grow our own food for salads we would make at the end of term. We also planted potato tubers and sweet pea seeds. The children were very good at remembering to water the plants and, helped by the warm weather, our plants grew quickly. We were all particularly fascinated by how the potatoes grew and enjoyed covering up the plants as the shoots began to show.
In July we cut the lettuce and used it to make our salads. We learnt how to grate carrots and slice onions, cucumber, radishes and tomatoes. We made choices about what we would like in our own salads and then prepared and ate them.

At the very end of term the potatoes were ready to harvest. We had great fun searching through the compost to find the potatoes and were amazed when we discovered they were attached to the roots. They were all different sizes and we counted 28 altogether. The best part was cooking and eating them!

Not only have we been eating healthily this term, but we’ve also been keeping fit. Sports Day was great fun and the children used up lots of energy taking part in all the activities. The ‘over and under’ game took lots of practising and by the day the children were masters at it.
Well done Purple Class – you have had lots of new experiences this year and you have all worked hard. Enjoy Year 2!
