We will be open as planned on Monday, 6th September at the usual time after a very busy Summer break. The re-wire of the lower school and nursery buildings is complete and the staff have worked incredibly hard to get everything back in place and ready for the children. The new building is also well under way, we have a brand new outside area for our Reception children and the new school environmental garden is also starting to look great. On arrival at school, children and parents will be directed to their new classrooms - 'left' for Green and Red classes and 'Right' for all other children, across the Upper School playground. We are really looking forward to the start to the new term and look forward to seeing you all back and ready to learn on Monday!

In 6R we have been enjoying interesting lesson as well as working hard revising. The revision has been for SATS (Silly Assessment Tests). In the lead up to SATS we have completed some tricky practise papers, which helped prepare us for the real ones. When it came to SATS week, we all felt prepared but extremely nervous at the same time. Regardless, we all did our best and we are now looking forward to the fun weeks coming up.

Non-Chronological Reports:

This term we have been learning how to write non-chronological reports. Non-chronological reports are reports that aren’t in time order, which are used to give information. Some non-chronological reports that we have written were fun e.g. a guide to dog breads, crisp flavours, sports and animals.

Mountains:

In geography we have been learning about mountains. During this topic we have: made fold mountains, found and marked mountains on maps and drawn mountain ranges. Here are some of the facts we have learned:

  • A well known mountain range is the Himalayas which also contains the tallest mountain, Mount Everest.
  • The longest mountain change in the world is under the Pacific Ocean.
  • A fold mountain is formed when two plates collide and rise above the earths crust.

Our class enjoyed the experience of creating Fold Mountains with a piece of white cloth. We are enjoying this topic very much and we think mountains are very cool.

3D Pop Art:

In our amazing art lessons we have been creating some wondrous 3D pop art sculptures. These vary from Sponge-bob to wheelie bins, weird cats to lynx cans, a large bear to a burger and so many more peculiar interpretations. There have been many hurdles and challenges that crossed our paths, but we persevered and results were very rewarding. This is a selection of some wonderful art work 6R have created:

Sponge-Bob:

2 students have created a smiley new member of 6R!

Wheelie Bin:

A miniature bin has been built to help the environment.

Cat and Dog:

Pets have never had such big heads!

Burger:

Nearly good enough to eat, although it’s gluey!

Cricket & Softball

In P.E we have been doing Cricket. We have played many matches! We have learnt how to hold the bat properly and bowl over arm. All of us have enjoyed it very much and hopefully we will carry on playing Cricket in the future. Also we have had a special master class in Softball. A professional man came in and showed us how to catch a ball with a baseball glove and how to score points. We really enjoyed it and thank the teachers for organising it.

Rounders:

In PE we have also been playing rounders. Rounders is a very popular sport with us along with cricket and softball. At first, in year 4, we were always getting confused with positions. But now we are great at playing independently. The positions include: backstop, bowler, fielders, batters and 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th base. We really enjoy our PE lessons.

OLIVIA!

(End of year production):

On Friday, 21st of May 2010, auditions for Olivia will take place. A child in 6R enthused, “I’m really excited about Olivia and I hope I get the part I want!” Our amazing photocopier photocopied some scripts for us to learn some lines ready for the auditions on 21st may! So we are all frantically preparing for our auditions. Olivia is a musical and some people are worried about their voice; they have started training their voices, ready for the nerve-racking auditions! The teachers are also looking forward to it, they want to discover all the children with singing or acting potential!
