We will be open as planned on Monday, 6th September at the usual time after a very busy Summer break. The re-wire of the lower school and nursery buildings is complete and the staff have worked incredibly hard to get everything back in place and ready for the children. The new building is also well under way, we have a brand new outside area for our Reception children and the new school environmental garden is also starting to look great. On arrival at school, children and parents will be directed to their new classrooms - 'left' for Green and Red classes and 'Right' for all other children, across the Upper School playground. We are really looking forward to the start to the new term and look forward to seeing you all back and ready to learn on Monday!

This spring term began in the midst of Britain’s heaviest snow fall in 30 years. This meant Wessex primary was off school for 3 whole days!!! Oooooooh. The rest of the term has been pretty normal. We have begun to revise for our SATs and now our teachers are helping us to do the best we can.

English

In English we have been writing lots of interesting story openers. We have learnt about a new thing called VCOP. This stands for Vocabulary, connectives, openings and punctuation. It has been very useful and has helped us a lot in improving our writing. We have done different types of writing such as letters, arguments and story writing. In all these we have used VCOP to help us improve our pieces of work.

History

In history we have continued to learn about the Victorian era. In this we have studied things such as homes, holidays and the great exhibition. We have also learnt about Victorian toys. In those times toys were only made out of wood or metal, which meant toys were sometimes dangerous and definitely not cuddly! Dolls, rocking horses and Diablo’s were very popular toys. This subject has been very interesting and great to learn about.

Science

In science this term we have been studying forces. In this we have learnt about a famous person called Isaac Newton who invented the force meter.

We have done lots of investigations such as: does the surface of the ramp affect the amount of force needed to pull the pencil case? And does the amount of salt affect the time it takes for an object to sink to the bottom. We have now finished this topic and travelled on to the topic of dissolving.

Art

In art we have been learning about pop art. In this we have chosen an everyday object to draw in tiny dots and different colours. The most popular item was a crisp packet as it is easy to draw with the simple 2 colours. The difficult items were mascara, snack bars, popcorn and sweet tubes. It took us over couple of weeks to finish this art work, but it was well worth the extra time and effort. We are now making pop art sculptures.

P.E

In PE we have been doing gym and hockey. In hockey we have practised ball skill and dribbling; a lot of people have excelled in this sport. In gym we have been using the apparatus to practise start and ending positions. It has been a very fun topic to do and we have all enjoyed it.

We have had a very exciting term and now have begun to revise for our end of year SATs tests!!!! Please check back next term to find out what else 6R have been up to.

Thank you

By Laura, Lizzie and Zoe of 6R.
