We will be open as planned on Monday, 6th September at the usual time after a very busy Summer break. The re-wire of the lower school and nursery buildings is complete and the staff have worked incredibly hard to get everything back in place and ready for the children. The new building is also well under way, we have a brand new outside area for our Reception children and the new school environmental garden is also starting to look great. On arrival at school, children and parents will be directed to their new classrooms - 'left' for Green and Red classes and 'Right' for all other children, across the Upper School playground. We are really looking forward to the start to the new term and look forward to seeing you all back and ready to learn on Monday!

Term 2 has been an exciting term for 6R. We have enjoyed learning lots of new things and taking part in different activities. Here are some of the things we have been learning about…

Shakespeare Project

6R were invited to take part in the 10th annual Shakespeare project. We decided to perform two scenes out of A Midsummer Night’s Dream: Titania and Oberon quarrelling over the changeling child and Quince’s men rehearsing a play for the Duke of Athens wedding. Dave from Norden Farm came down to do a drama workshop with us. He taught us some key things to improve our acting, including not giggling during love scenes. We had auditions to decide who was getting a part. Once we found out our parts, we made our costumes and started learning our lines. Our first audience was 6D, who thought our play was funny and romantic. We then performed our play at Norden Farm, in front of two other schools (Oldfield and South Ascot). Oldfield did a play of Macbeth and South Ascot did a play of Shakespeare ‘As you like it’. It was very nerve-racking because we were first up to perform our play, we thought it went very well because we had very good feedback from the other schools and we made Dave laugh! Over all we thought it was an excellent experience and would definitely do it again.

Autobiographies and Biographies

We have been studying the differences between autobiographies and biographies. We’ve read some of Michael Owen’s autobiography and we identified the key features: significant events, opinions and facts about his life. The class have all written their own autobiographies about themselves and we have written biographies about famous Victorian people. Prachi has written her biography about Florence Nightingale, and Lizzie has written about Charles Dickens. If we become famous, we will be able to publish our own autobiographies!

Victorians

In year 6 we have been learning about the Victorians. We have learnt all about Queen Victoria and have studied her life. Also we have studied Victorian schools and have made a prospectus for a Victorian school which includes lots of information about what it would have been like in those times. When we went to the Reading Museum we experienced what it would be like to go to school in the Victorian times. Everything was very old and strict. It made us laugh when Michael and Erin got the cane! Laura also had to wear a back straightener because she was slouching and Drew had to wear finger crunchers because he was fiddling. The experience felt very realistic and was very enjoyable.

French

In French we have been writing letters and Christmas cards to our French pen pals. On our cards we have included French phrases such as: Joyeux Noel (Merry Christmas), Bonne Annee (happy New Year and Meilleurs Voeux (best wishes). We have sent our letters to our pen pals in France and we hope to receive replies after Christmas.

Art

We have been learning about African Art and have been drawing African animals. Later on we transformed our pictures into soap sculptures. It was very challenging, but in the end they all looked great! Our class have also created symmetrical African masks using dried food (such as: lentils. Macaroni, sunflower seeds, coffee, pumpkin seeds, cannellini beans and rice.) to decorate it. They are very creative and look magnificent!

Thank you for visiting our web page and come back for an update soon.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!
