Welcome to 6R!

Moving to Year 6 was very exciting because we became one of the most responsible and oldest classes in the school. 6R is a vibrant, fun and exciting class. We have an enthusiastic and kind teacher, called Miss Razeghi. Everyone in the class is caring, friendly and hard working. We are all part of one team, but possess many fascinating personalities and qualities. In lessons, we listen to each other and co-operate so that we can learn from each other. We are independent learners and enjoy taking up new challenges. Our class is always a tidy, calm and peaceful place.

English:

Trollop and Crunch

In Y6 we have read a book called Trollop and Crunch. It was about 2 boys who had completely different personalities. One was tall and poor and the other was short and rich. Our favourite part of the topic was inventing our own dynamic inventions and writing our own version of Trollop and Crunch. We enjoyed reading the book and it was very humorous, descriptive and left us in suspense.

Way Home

We have also been reading another book called Way Home. It was about a homeless boy called Shane who makes a new friend and is determined to get ‘home’. On Monday morning we got to school to find the stairs covered in newspaper and cardboard. We then discovered a shelter made by a homeless person in our corridor. It had drawings, chalk, food, lemonade and a blanket covering half the den. We were quite surprised and then wrote on-the-spot reports about what we thought it was.

Our favourite part of the topic was when we made sounds using musical instruments that helped us understand the pictures which were made in charcoal and pastel. We enjoyed reading the book because it was descriptive, mysterious and was written in a style that we’re not used to.

Languages: German

We have started a new language which is German. We have been very lucky to have been taught by the deputy head of Cox Green, Miss Scott. Our first 2 lessons have been very enjoyable and we have learnt a lot. Some of the words we have learnt are:

Guten Tag – Hello

Wie Gehts – How are you?

Gutdanke – I’m fine

Schlect – Not very well

Tchuss – Goodbye

Topic: Victorians

In history we have been learning about the Victorians. In this we have studied Queen Victoria. We learnt that she had 9 children and is the longest reigning queen as she ruled for 63 years. She also survived 7 assassinations and she only wore black since her husband Prince Albert died. Some other facts we have learnt about Victorians are:

Ice cream was invented in 1851

The first flushing toilet was invented in 1852,

Queen Victoria became queen in 1837 and died in 1901.

We enjoyed all areas of this topic.

Science: Electricity and Circuits

In science we have been learning about electricity and circuits. We have been making full circuits which make the bulb light up. We have also been investigating conductors and insulators using complete circuits. We have learnt a lot about electricity, how batteries work and safety issues.
