Class 6D - Term 1
Welcome to 6D!
In year 6 we will have loads of fun and learn a lot too. Our teacher is Mrs Dore and our super duper LSA is Mrs Butler and sometimes Mrs Champion too.
Now we’re the oldest we have lots of responsibilities around the school. If it weren’t for us the roof would fall down and the walls would fall in!
There are also lots of school trips to look forward to like going to museums, school plays and of course going to Kingswood in the Isle of Wight for a week.
We will enjoy Year 6 the most because it’s our last year of primary school and we want to make it the best yet!
What have we been up to?
English
In English we read a book called Trollop and Crunch by Sally-Ann Lever and have written our own versions. We have also learnt about alliteration and have written some fabulous poems. We’ve started reading Way Home by Libby Hathorn. It’s about a boy called Shane who is homeless – we arrived in Year 6 on Monday to discover his shelter in the corridor. It’s inspired us to do some great writing!
Science
In science we are learning about circuits and electricity. We have made our own circuits and have investigated how to make light bulbs brighter. (One table even blew up a few light bulbs!) Our ‘er’ statement: the greater the amount of batteries the brighter the bulb.
Topic
In topic we are learning about the Victorians. We have made our own Victorian timelines. We have also learnt that the Victorian era was from 1837-1901. The Victorians invented the motor car, the steam train and the railway system. The first F.A. Cup final was in Victorian times too!
P.E.
In P.E we have been doing football with Jerry and shadows and mirror work . We went in partners and made a mirror routine each.
Art
In art we have been doing African Art. We are aiming to make African soap carvings. We have been sketching African sculptures and African animals.
