Class 5D - Term 1
The Snails
In 5D we have been looking after the Giant African Land Snails. Their names are Shelly, Sheldon and Trevor. Everyone gets a turn at looking after them. We wash them every week and feed them every day with lettuce, cucumber and banana.
On Wednesday 30th September and Friday 2nd October, Year 5 went to Waltham Place. We learned how to make compost, how to dig the earth (Dig for Victory) and what it would have been like for the evacuees. We explored the gardens, they were big! Everyone was tired but smiling when it was time to go.
A Day at Waltham Place by Eleanor
There was a lunch waste competition to see which class produced the least waste from their lunches. 5C got about 333g and 5D got about 451g. We went across the road and went to the farm.
The chickens were playing a game called follow the humans. There were pigs and dogs there and when we went on the nature walk we saw foxes and deers.
When we got to the Ordney Centre we did an activity with the teachers, staring Mrs. Meades, Mrs. Stearn and Mrs. Dawson.
They each chose two evacuees.
Mrs. Meades chose William Pearson and Robert Pilling, Mrs. Stearn chose Maddy Tredgett and Natalie Batten and finally Mrs. Dawson chose Matthew Banham and Eleanor Shrimpton.
If you know about rations this will make sense. We each got to go and pick a food on the long table and we got to smell the food as well.
Last but not least we got given four colour chips each and had to match the shade of the colour to something in the garden.
We all had a fantastic time at Waltham place and a huge thanks to the teachers for organising the trip.
