The Final Word

Year 5

Way back last year the journey began

The year has been full of fun

Now the year is over

We look back on what we have done

Cooking to PE week

Waltham place and Cox Green

The giant African snails

The largest I’ve ever seen

Hooke Court and Boulter’s Lock

and Hitler monitoring all our locks

All the memories been and gone in year 5

I like to write poems like this because I think they are funny and I find them fun to do.  I have enjoyed Hooke Court , Boulter’s Lock  and Mrs Dawson because she is very funny.

Year Five Rap

Going to Cox Green School was very cool,

But I like it much better at Wessex Primary School,

I’m in year five so give me a big hi five,

And I’d like to be your friend,

So we’ll be together till the end.

I made a biscuit tree for a competition

It was really fun!

And it was worth it cause I won!

We went to Hooke Court,

And did lots of activities,

Including dressing up as evacuees.

It’s time for me to go now,

I’m really going to miss you,

I’ll miss you all

 Especially Bernard the cow.

 HOOKE COURT POEM

On Wednesday we went to Hooke Court,

And we used two buses as a teleport,

When we got there we had some lunch,

And on the adventure trip our boots went crunch,

And when we got back,

I felt very loose and very slack,

Then finally at 9.00,

It was bedtime,

At bedtime we talked and talked,

And sometimes snoring we sleep walked,

Scott talked too much and made Callum cry,

So got a punch and thought of pie,

Next morning it was bright and light,

So we decided to have a pillow fight.

In year 5 I have………………………..

 Enjoyed

 Working with different people,

Going to Cox Green,

P.E week and Waltham place,

Because I love animals.

 The best was

 Hooke Court because,

It was like a giant sleep over,

All of us talked but we didn’t care,

So we got told off four times,

Finally we went to sleep,

 I will miss Mrs Dawson.

 Hooke Court 2010

We all enjoyed our trip to Hooke Court! Some of our highlights were imagining what it would have been like to be an evacuee during WW2, stream mapping in the River Hooke and getting rather wet and sleeping in dorms with our friends.

 PE Week

PE Week was a fantastic week.  The Year 5s were put into four teams to compete against each other in four different well-known games such as rounders, kwik cricket and hand rounders.  The children all did their best and there was some super batting, bowling and fielding skills displayed!  Team B were the eventual winners but the final scores were very close.

In addition to this, the children took part in yoga, Bollywood dancing, hockey and learnt about sailing and sport in the RAF.

The children were all brilliant and displayed lots of team spirit and excellent sporting behaviour.

In science we have been learning about changing state.  First we planned our own investigation. You could include chocolate, material or liquid. We thought about investigations like how quickly does chocolate melt or freeze and do all liquids evaporate? After that we had to show our results in a chart. Then we thought about how we could make our investigation different.

In English we have been learning about Highwaymen . We talked about any that we knew of and what they did . We also read a poem about called ‘The Highwayman’  by Alfred Noyes. It is about a highwayman who goes to visit his true love Bess the landlord’s daughter . Tim the Ostler was listening to what they were saying and told King George’s men . They came and tied Bess up and then waited for the Highwayman to return. Bess killed herself because she was hurt and upset . The Highwayman heard the bang of the gun and started to ride in the opposite direction . Meanwhile King George’s men were waiting in a clearing and as the Highwayman went past he got shot.

In History we are learning about the Ancient Greeks. We drew the 12 Greek Gods and Goddesses .We also made a storyboard using materials like felt and fabric to make our own myths like the Wooden Horse of Troy and Cyclops. We watched myths like Jason  and the Golden Fleece to get ideas. We have learnt about life in Sparta and Athens which were very different . It has been great fun and I hope we continue this fun.

This term in art we have been reading myths and legends, then we got into groups of six then in those groups we got into pairs. Then in the groups we decided on a myth to draw and which pair was doing the beginning, middle and end. Then in the pairs we made a college of that scene.

This term in music we have been learning about a pentatonic scale and pitches. A pitch is how HIGH or how LOW a note is. A pentatonic scale is a scale with only five notes in. Both Year five classes have been doing this music with Mrs Dawson. All Year five classes can’t wait to find out what super, fun and exciting piece of music we will be learning next time!
