Numeracy

In Mrs Elliott’s maths the topics we have covered are partitioning numbers, completing missing numbers, multiplying and dividing, learning about polygons and not polygons. We have been finding out about interpreting data from a bar chart we were also learning about X and Y axes and about pictograms. We drew a bar chart on the board about pets of all the children. What we enjoyed – learning about multiplying and dividing and learning about polygons and not polygons.

What we found tricky – identifying regular and irregular shapes, multiplying by 10, 100 and 1000, mega maths challenges.

In maths we have been identifying regular and irregular polygons, interpreting data from a bar chart, subtracting 10, 100 and 1000 and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000. We have been partitioning 4 digit numbers and recognising the value of the digits. We have been completing missing numbers, adding multiples of 10, 100 and 1000, interpreting data in pictograms and rounding numbers.

 Literacy

In Literacy we have used sentences to describe a picture. We have been answering questions about ‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’. We have also been writing similes. We have drawn an imaginary picture and written a description about it. Then somebody had to draw a picture from our description to see whether the pictures looked the same. We have also been sorting sentences to make paragraphs. We have been writing a story mountain so we can write fabulous stories.

Science

In science we have been learning about organisms and splitting plants from animals. We have also been learning about the main habitats. The main habitats are the ocean, polar, rainforest and desert areas. We have also been learning about keys and how to use them. The first key we did was invertebrates, the second key we did was about buttercups, clovers and daisies. The third key was about an eagle, a curlew and a heron. The last key was about leaves. Mrs Elliott told us about food chains. A food chain is a chain that shows what the top predator is called. The bottom thing on the chain is the producer and the animal in the middle is the consumer.

ICT

I have been learning to type with two hands. I find it easy to type without looking at the keyboard. Jack helped me to find out about Van Gogh.

ICT is the best subject because I have been learning to type with both hands. I find it difficult typing all the letters. Sometimes we have Golden Time in the ICT suite and I like to play games on CBBC.

Geography

The topics we have covered are Planet Earth, Maps and Climates.

We enjoyed colouring the front cover. They all came out very bright! We also enjoyed learning about the rainforest layers. We had fun cutting pretty pictures of animals out and sticking them in the right layers. What we found hard was Spaceship Earth. It was tricky because we had to fill in all the missing words. We discovered all the parts that make up the world.

We learnt about rainforests and what we are doing to them. There’s too much deforestation. We had to fill in words on a sheet and then copy it out in our books. We had to draw a picture about rainforests and deforestation.

French

In French we have been learning numbers. Our favourite thing is the number games. It is hard to learn French but extremely fun. Something we found out is that it is ‘vingt et un’ not ‘vingt un’. We like the French display board.

Art

Our very first lesson was to draw a picture of ourselves. The next lesson was about Van Gogh. We learnt that Van Gogh used a lot of wiggly and straight lines. We had to draw a picture in the style of Van Gogh. We could smudge our drawing too. Another time we went into the ICT suite to answer some questions about Van Gogh. There were 15 questions to answer. The last art lesson we did was a still life. We had some flowers that Mrs Elliott bought. The flowers were in vases. We had some A4 paper and we had to sketch the flowers using lots of detail.

We have been drawing and finding interesting things about Van Gogh. We found out about when he was born and died and we looked at pictures of Van Gogh and searched on the computers and did word searches. We did a picture of flowers in a vase.

PE

The topics we have covered are tag rugby, hockey, rounders, netball and multi skills. We have enjoyed tag rugby and multi skills. We found passing the ball in rugby and running along the ladder in multi skills activities tricky. In tag rugby we’ve been doing some exciting games like Monster and Mouse, Egg and Bacon, Cheese and Biscuits, Eggs and Nests and lots more. In hockey we’ve been doing dodging and going around the lines. In rounders we’ve had interesting matches with other classes. We love PE.

RE

In RE we have been learning about Islam. It is the 2nd most popular religion in the world. The place of origin was Saudi Arabia. Muslims believe in a chain of prophets starting with Adam! The sacred text is the Qur’an. The mosque is one of the sacred buildings. The holy places for Muslims are Mecca, Medina and Jerusalem. The major festivals are Ramadam, Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha. The star and the moon symbol are sometimes used to show how Islam guides the Muslims way through life.

Reading

Reading helps you and you only have to read 1 or 2 pages a night. Reading is the most important thing in life. You get 10 house points if you read and get your reading record signed and if you read all week you get 100 extra house points. You only have to read for 5 or 10 minutes.

Class Monitors

Monitors are very important because when visitors come round if they see it really messy they won’t want their children to come to this school and children might fall over the coats and bags in the corridor. It is important to keep the lunch trolleys tidy because Year 3s lunch trolley goes in year 4 corridor and if they fall off the Year 3s will lose their lunch boxes. The ECO monitor is very important because if she left the lights on she would be wasting electricity. The Golden Time monitors are important because if they didn’t tidy away the Golden Time toys they would get broken and wouldn’t work. The Reading Book monitors are very important because if they don’t hand the reading books out we won’t beat 4P!!!!!!!!!

Gardening Club

Every Monday we go to Gardening Club. Right now we are weeding and getting the place ready for winter. We are growing leeks and making insect homes from bamboo canes. We have been getting rid of rocks in the soil and we have been putting dead plants in the compost heap.

‘We like gardening because we get to plant vegetables and we get to use tools from the shed.’ (Alex and Peter) ‘I like gardening club because we are making a greenhouse and I get to use gardening tools and I like gardening.’ (Faith)
