We will be open as planned on Monday, 6th September at the usual time after a very busy Summer break. The re-wire of the lower school and nursery buildings is complete and the staff have worked incredibly hard to get everything back in place and ready for the children. The new building is also well under way, we have a brand new outside area for our Reception children and the new school environmental garden is also starting to look great. On arrival at school, children and parents will be directed to their new classrooms - 'left' for Green and Red classes and 'Right' for all other children, across the Upper School playground. We are really looking forward to the start to the new term and look forward to seeing you all back and ready to learn on Monday!

After a lovely Easter break the children came back refreshed and ready to go on the class trip to Waltham farm as part of our science topic ‘helping plants to grow well’. We had a fantastic day learning about making good compost, how the soil is prepared for planting, and what a plant needs to make sure it is healthy. We prepared some seedlings for planting and were taught about the need for lots of sunlight, water, nutrients and warmth. The afternoon was spent investigating the woods and making a model of a plant only using materials the children could find on the floor. Four of the boys made a fantastic tree as you can see in the picture. Can you tell what they used?

When we came back to school we used some of the compost we had made at the farm to plant flowers to carry out our investigations. One of several experiments the children designed was if a plant needs light to grow well. A group of children created their own experiment by changing only one variable (light) and had to make sure their test was fair. They chose to put a plant in a dark cupboard and another on a window sill and after two weeks of watering and measuring they looked to see if there was a difference. Can you guess which plant was in the dark cupboard?

Norden farm visited us during the term to help us with some drama and poetry. The children helped the poet choose rhyming words and then created their own silly poems which they then performed.

To finish a very busy term the whole school had a brilliant PE week in the sun. Here our learning was based around exercise. The children had the chance to try lots of new sports, had a talk from a professional racing driver, learnt about sailing and the parts of a yacht, performed in a whole school dance, designed, delivered and coached their own sporting activities to year 2 children. There was a basketball coaching session, a football training session from year 6s, a karate session and they kept track of their learning by writing their own diaries. Phew! We were exhausted by the end of term!
