We will be open as planned on Monday, 6th September at the usual time after a very busy Summer break. The re-wire of the lower school and nursery buildings is complete and the staff have worked incredibly hard to get everything back in place and ready for the children. The new building is also well under way, we have a brand new outside area for our Reception children and the new school environmental garden is also starting to look great. On arrival at school, children and parents will be directed to their new classrooms - 'left' for Green and Red classes and 'Right' for all other children, across the Upper School playground. We are really looking forward to the start to the new term and look forward to seeing you all back and ready to learn on Monday!

Another busy term comes to a close and we’d like to share with you what we have been up to.

When the snow finally stopped we managed to get out into the playground and learn some hockey and netball skills. Several of the Lions entered the netball inter house tournament and were able to show off their passing, throwing and catching skills…even though it was so cold outside!

Our writing this term has focused on the features of an adventure story. We have learnt how we need to have an interesting main character, a setting, an issue or problem that needs to be resolved and an ending to the story. Of course it wouldn’t be an adventure story without adding excitement to it too. To help us we read lots of Secret Seven stories. 3L have also worked together with 6R on writing a joint story based on a painting by Jan Molenaer from 1609!

Art has been fun looking at the work of L.S. Lowry who was famous for his paintings of Manchester in the early part of last century. The children made matchstick men and matchstick cats and dogs out of pipe cleaners, used charcoal and sketch pencils and even learnt the song made famous in the 1970’s. They studied how artists made the effect of distance using perspective. We made clay models to show this effect.

Our science has been spent looking at magnets and springs. The children created their own posters, reports and power point presentations of what they knew, which were fantastic.

They are really looking forward to the next topic of rocks and soils and have all decided to find interesting examples of rocks over the half term break.

We were lucky to have students from Cox Green come in one afternoon and perform a play they had written on the Ancient Egyptians. They then gave a drama workshop afterwards which the Lions loved.

In maths we have used arrays and the grid method for multiplication, doubled and divided by 10 and 100 and studied 3 dimensional shapes. Some children even invented their own ‘spot the missing shape’ game which the class loved!
