We will be open as planned on Monday, 6th September at the usual time after a very busy Summer break. The re-wire of the lower school and nursery buildings is complete and the staff have worked incredibly hard to get everything back in place and ready for the children. The new building is also well under way, we have a brand new outside area for our Reception children and the new school environmental garden is also starting to look great. On arrival at school, children and parents will be directed to their new classrooms - 'left' for Green and Red classes and 'Right' for all other children, across the Upper School playground. We are really looking forward to the start to the new term and look forward to seeing you all back and ready to learn on Monday!

Blue Class have had a wonderful term packed full of new and interesting topics.

In science we have been looking at materials. We have identified what different objects are made from and their properties, as well as investigating which materials are waterproof. We even made the Troll from The Three Billy Goats Gruff a waterproof coat to keep him dry under the bridge!

We have also covered the topic of sound in science, and have made a number of musical instruments out of anything we could find in the classroom! The children loved doing this, and we played them together – a Wessex band in the making I think!

In Literacy we have covered a range of storybooks such as Cinderella, The Three Billy Goats Gruff and Mr Gumpy’s Outing. The children have done lots of their own story writing too. We have also looked at a range of non-fiction books and used them to create our own class information books on Sound and Toys.

We have been finding out about toys in our History work, and the children brought in their own toys to show. They loved talking about them and sharing their toys with each other. They also questioned adults around school about the sort of toys that they played with when they were younger, and we compared these to toys we have now and toys from a long, long time ago.

We played a number of playground games from the past too, such as ‘Oranges and Lemons’, ‘In and Out of the Dusty Bluebells’ and ‘Queenie’ as well as ‘Farmer’s In His Den’, a great old favourite!

The children have created some spectacular weavings during our Art lessons. They picked up the process of going over and under very quickly and enjoyed the challenge!

In PE we have covered a range of activities, from Multi-Skills to large apparatus to creating a dance for the Dance Festival. The Dance Festival was a huge success and the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves. They worked very hard on their dance and should be extremely proud of their performance – I know I am! Thank you to all parents for providing costumes and for all your support. It is greatly appreciated!

In numeracy we have carried out lots of work on Venn diagrams, capacity and problem solving. The children are fantastic at creating their own criteria in order to sort objects or numbers into categories.

All in all it has been a super term. Well done Blue Class!
