In Blue Class this term, we have been working very hard and having lots of fun along the way!

We began our term with a large bang using the theme of fireworks across the curriculum. The children created firework pictures in art, measured the length of fireworks in numeracy and also learnt about the importance of keeping safe when using fireworks, making posters to promote this.

Our science topic was ‘light and dark’ and the children have completed a number of different experiments to find out information, such as whether light is needed to see in the dark and the difference between bright and dim light. The children also looked in depth at a variety of light sources and if they were a natural or man-made source of light.

We have also been out and about visiting the local library at Cox Green where we listened to some lovely stories and found out about how we can become a member. Back in the classroom we have been using various stories such as Whatever Next and The Christmas Story, to help us write our own. We have particularly focused on capital letters and full stops in our writing.

In Numeracy we have been using Mr Wolf to help us tell the time to o’clock and half-past. We have also weighed a variety of objects using a balance and measured and compared the length and height of different items. As well as all this the children have been practising counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s – as you can see we’ve been very busy!

Within our history topic this term we have looked at homes from 100 years ago and how they are different to our own. We have looked at some items from the past that might be found in different rooms and had a go at washing the way they used to – no washing machines much to the children’s dismay!

We have been fortunate enough to have the local Vicar come to visit us and explain how a baby is welcomed into the Christian faith. We have also been to visit Stubbings Church, learning all about the different features and important artefacts found in a church which linked to our R.E topic of Christianity.

We are now preparing for Christmas and the children have had lots of fun making decorations for both the classroom and home. The children especially enjoyed our Christmas production this year of ‘Wriggly Nativity’ and worked very hard to make it such a success. Their singing and dancing was fabulous! Well done Blue Class!

Please pop back again soon and see what we are getting up to next term.
