Blue Class have been very busy this term and created some beautiful work of which they should be very proud! The children have settled in extremely well to the different structure and routines of Year 1.

In Literacy we have looked at a range of Traditional Tales such as Goldilocks and The Three Bears, The Gingerbread Man and The Little Red Hen. We have re-told the stories in a variety of ways such as through role-play, through painting story boards and through creating short pieces of writing.

In Numeracy we have been counting to and from 20 and practising writing numbers. We have begun to add and subtract two numbers and write number sentences to match. We have also begun work on money.

Our Science work this term is based around the topic ‘Ourselves’. We have looked at the different parts of our body and labelled them. We have also discussed our senses and the children have taken part in a variety of activities to test them out. These were:

- Guessing what is in a variety of smelling pots

(such things as vinegar and marmite!),

- Tasting crisps and guessing the flavour.

- Listening to a range of sounds and guessing what they are made by.

- Feeling objects in a bag and describing their texture before naming them.

- Playing a look and remember game for objects on a tray (Kims Game).

The children had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed it!

Our Art topic is Colour Mixing and Portraits. We have identified the Primary colours and used these to create some Secondary colours. We have looked at work by the artists Matisse and Paul Klee and used ideas gained from these to create our own portraits.

As you can see the children have been very busy! Please come back again to see what new and wonderful things we are doing next!
