Green Class - Y2 - Archive
Welcome to Green Class!
This term has been very busy and very exciting. We have been working very hard and impressing Mrs Poole with our good listening, sensible behaviour and positive attitudes. We even had an extra special golden time because we filled up our marble jar. Also we have all taken Johnny home for at least one night. He has been very well looked after by everyone and he even has his own winter outfit now.
Here are just some of the things we have been up to this term:
English
In English we have been reading historical stories and information texts about Remembrance Day and Guy Fawkes. We have also read traditional stories such as Red Riding Hood and written our own traditional story. We are trying really hard to improve our handwriting and presentation.
Maths
In maths we are learning our 2, 5 and 10 times tables. We need to practise these at home to make sure we don’t forget them. We practise counting in different steps as well as adding on and taking away using number lines. Some of us are still working on not reversing our numbers. We have also learned the names and properties of 2D and 3D shapes. We really enjoyed making our own 3D shapes using marshmallows and cocktail sticks.
Science
In science we have been learning about electricity. We have identified different things that use electricity and what they generate. We have looked at mains electricity as well batteries as sources of electricity. We have created circuits using batteries, wires, bulbs and switches. Most importantly, we understand the dangers involved in using electricity and will make sure we act safely and responsibly when using electrical equipment.
Design Technology
We have been looking at vehicles in DT and we have learned to make different parts of vehicles, for examples, axles to make the wheels turn.
On problem solving day we were told that Rudolf is ill and won’t be able to pull Santa’s sleigh this year. We were horrified to find out that Santa may not be able to deliver any presents, so we came up with a plan to use what we have learned in DT to make Santa a moving vehicle. A sleigh on wheels! We loved designing and making our sleighs. We learned a lot about the process of problem solving and we learned to use resources and equipment safely, as we used saws to cut dowelling to size. Here are some pictures of our sleighs:
Children in Need
We really enjoyed Children in need this year as we took part in lots of fun fundraising activities. We designed bandanas and bows for Pudsey and Blush for a competition. We had a movie afternoon with biscuits, which was great fun. We had to solve Pudsey problems in maths, which we did very well. The best part, however, was sponging Mr Stevens after school. We had a fantastic time, but most importantly we raised lots of money to help children who need it.
Nativity
In the past few weeks, we have been getting ready for our Christmas Nativity. We have learned lots of wonderful songs and practised our parts as actors, narrators and musicians. We have some fantastic costumes and props for telling the Christmas story. The rehearsals are going well and we are looking forward to performing the play for you all soon.
