We will be open as planned on Monday, 6th September at the usual time after a very busy Summer break. The re-wire of the lower school and nursery buildings is complete and the staff have worked incredibly hard to get everything back in place and ready for the children. The new building is also well under way, we have a brand new outside area for our Reception children and the new school environmental garden is also starting to look great. On arrival at school, children and parents will be directed to their new classrooms - 'left' for Green and Red classes and 'Right' for all other children, across the Upper School playground. We are really looking forward to the start to the new term and look forward to seeing you all back and ready to learn on Monday!

End of term 6 (3.20pm)

Dear Parents

I am delighted to tell you that The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead has identified Wessex as one of the LA schools to undergo a full electrical rewire this summer.  This will involve all the electrical systems and the fire alarm and intruder alarm systems being rewired, linked and modernised. It will also result in the replacement of every ceiling, light fitting, switch, wire and socket in our Nursery and Lower School buildings.

As you can appreciate, this is a tremendous amount of work and a huge undertaking in a school of this size and so the contactors will be on site for the entire summer holiday.  Prior to the contactors starting, the school staff will need to pack up all of the classrooms and other shared areas. We need to remove every table, chair, display board, interactive whiteboard, pencil, rubber and paint pot from our Nursery and Lower School buildings and move them to the Upper School where they will be stored during the works.  At the end of the work, the school will need to be thoroughly cleaned and all of the furniture and equipment moved back into the areas.  This cannot be scheduled into the planned summer holiday period and so the borough has given us permission for the children to break up slightly earlier and return to school a little later.

I am therefore writing to advise that the pupils will all break up for the summer on Friday 16th July 2010 and will return to school on Monday 6th September 2010, with the Nursery starting back on Wednesday, 8th September 2010 to enable home visits to take place.  This will provide enough time to ensure that the areas are safely packed up prior to the work starting and also that the pupils will return to a clean organised school in September.

At the same time, I have been working with the governing body and local authority to bring our long awaited plans for a new administrative centre and link between Upper and Lower schools to fruition. You may have noticed that planning permission has been submitted and these are available to be viewed at www.planning.maidenhead@rbwm.gov.uk. If our planning application is successful, I will display our planned building project and invite you to come and review them at your leisure.

I apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, but Wessex has waited a long time for this important work to happen and we are very excited that it will at last take place.  It will provide a modern, safe and up to date environment for our children and staff to work in and so we are really looking forward to it, despite the hard work involved.

If you do have any queries or questions please do not hesitate to come and see me.

Yours sincerely
